If there is one place you can be assured of being healthy – it’s Spain and no more so than Marbella, nestled on the Mediterranean in the province of Andalucía, enjoying an averaging annual temperature above 18 °C (64 °F). Historians believe that the first settlement on the present site of Marbella was indeed founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC.
Mediterranean Magic
The Mediterranean diet is brimming with wholesome healthy ingredients, which has been well documented to be the best diet your body can enjoy! Research by University College London showed that people who follow Mediterranean diets may be less likely to develop depression coupled with that sunshine near on all year round… it has to be the best health recipe ever! According to The Lancet, the world’s best-known medical journal, the research indicates that Spain is not only one of the healthiest places to live in Europe, but the World as a whole.
Most northern European countries handle a conveyor belt of stress, but here in the south of Europe it’s different. The Andalusian way of using the term ‘Mañana’ meaning ‘Tomorrow’ is that we simply don’t do stress, we just get it done eventually. The rhythm of Madrid & Barcelona is more commercially upbeat but here it’s different, more relaxed & healthier and that’s why studies have shown people live longer! Taking this into account it’s places such as living in Marbella with sunshine, a healthy diet, plenty of exercise and lots of fresh air are factors which are proven to be good for our health.
Lifestyle
Marbella is so accessible, situated barely 30 mins from Malaga airport and in no time the activities on offer can tick everyone’s box. Climbers love what Andalucía offers with an extensive range of sites including the famous El Chorro and not forgetting La Concha – Marbella’s own mountain. Cycling too is big in Spain together with great paseos to stroll on by past endless café bars and exquisite restaurants to delight your palette whilst overlooking the ocean.
With access to championship golf courses and being able to ski in Sierra Nevada in the winter, the level of healthy activities also includes surfing in boho chic Tarifa, a nearby destination considered to be one of the world’s best locations for kitesurfing & windsurfing. Like yachts? Why not book a private sunset cruise to see dolphins playing in the ocean. Sporting clubs for all types of activities exist here including triathlons, swimming, horse riding, cycling, marathons, running, trekking clubs, iron man, outdoor & indoor gyms… it’s a sporting paradise!
Yoga is very popular here too, great for the soul and if you need a personal trainer at the gym, beach or home we have those also! Did we mention The Beach? Swimming is considered one of the best all-round sports for our health and can be achieved here on the southern coast of Spain practically all year round. You may need a light wetsuit in the winter months, but as there are a considerable amount of private or communal pools, which are heated in the winter months, you’ll have no worries there. If you looking for a healthy lifestyle, then life in Marbella is perfect for all you need.
